About this Course:
Develop the English language and communicative skills needed for social and work situations and daily life activities. Learn basic comprehension, reading and writing skills through to more complex elements such as syntax and grammar. NIET provides free of charge English language level checking tools.
English Level Guide
This course teaches English at the following levels:
Minimum age of 16 years
Photo ID and evidence of citizenship (international students must provide copy of passport)
Basic computing skills including use of Microsoft Office programmes, in addition to hardware requirements of a portable computer with keyboard, pointing device, speaker, camera and microphone, and a broadband internet connection.
Students who are unable to meet the academic or English language criteria may in some cases be eligble to undertake our Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) test. Criteria may change at any time without notice. Additional English language requirements may apply to international applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds wishing to articulate on a visa package into a university programme.

Progress Test
Each week you will get the chance to demonstrate your new vocabulary and grammar skills as you take a progress test based on the previous week’s content. This is an excellent opportunity for you to see how much you have learned. You will be tested on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and functional language.
Workshops
Workshop lessons focus on specific skills, for example, writing or listening and offer real life English materials such as short films. Writing workshops focus on different types of text, from emails to essays, offering lots of opportunities to practise. In addition, workshop lessons offer more opportunities for discussion on important and engaging life topics.
Pronunciation Workshop
Students love this opportunity to hone their pronunciation skills. A fun based workshop that focuses on specific sounds, intonation and fluency with lots of opportunities to practise.
STRIDE
Practise listening every day with this 30-minute autonomous activity based on useful information, such as the news, the weather or typical Australian activities. Watch the video and answer the questions at your own pace.
Core Classes
Learn English with classmates from all over the world. Your dedicated teachers will guide and encourage you as you work towards your language goals. Here you will practise all the skills, reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as improving your vocabulary and grammar.

Matthew brings a unique combination of qualifications, competencies and experience to the learning environment in the disciplines of Leadership and Management, Accounting, and English Language. He has post graduate qualifications in Management and has been a board director of a publicly listed company. He was qualified as a CPA (or equivalent) in three countries and was the country managing partner for a global accountancy firm. Matthew worked for several years as the senior financial advisor to the World Bank-funded Higher Education Project in Vietnam. He is also a Cambridge CELTA qualified English language teacher with over twenty years’ teaching experience in Asia and Australia. Matthew’s employers / contracting organisations have included (current names) PwC, Grant Thornton, World Bank / Government of Vietnam, and Accenture.
