Course Overview

  • Make a visual statement with a Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising. This course will teach skills and knowledge relevant to assistant design and product development roles, and assistant roles associated with fashion product management in a fashion enterprise.

    Students will learn to work effectively and safely in the fashion industry, develop design concepts and estimate production costs, control product quality, and network within the industry.

    The course is designed to lead to career and further training opportunities in either product design and development or business and merchandising, and elective choices are categorised by these specialisations.

Career Outcomes

  • Graduates of this course will be qualified to work in the fashion industry, and may find employment at any stage in the supply chain as Fashion Designers, Product Developers, Business Assistants, and Fashion Merchandisers.

Entry Requirements

  • The training package does not have any entry requirement, but NIET’s specific course entry requirements are:

    • Education
    • 16 years old or above
    • Australian Year 11 high school certificate or equivalent; or
    • Pass NIET entry test
    • English
    • (International student only)
    • IELTS score of 5 or equivalent; or
    • Pass NIET entry test
